What an interesting way for Jesus to describe the Kingdom of heaven in the book of Matthew chapter 25 verse 1-13. In that chapter, we see how Jesus uses the parable of the ten virgins. The virgins represent people in the Church, the bridegroom represents Jesus, the lamps represent our mind, and the oil represents God’s Holy Spirit that provides illumination for the path to the Kingdom of God. The parable illustrates the need to be prepared for the return of the Lord. It seems clear and simple that God simply wants people to live lives full of love, mercy and compassion, and caring for one another which are signs of faith that change lives. While we wait for our bridegroom, let us be His hands and feet, let us be faithful brides prepared for the bridegroom’s return. For if we are unfaithful brides, we will not be allowed into the wedding banquet.
Imagine for a minute if followers of Christ can start to see themselves as potential brides in preparation for marriage, not just any marriage but an eternal one with the eternal God. Guess what beloved? That preparation begins at the exact moment when you accept Christ as your Lord and Savior. Voila, you are now that bride preparing for the bridegroom. Now, what does it mean to be a faithful bride? What does it take to remain a faithful bride? From the time you started on this journey of faith until the wedding day, never cease to live a life of worship, worship in Spirit and in Truth; live a life of repentance; live a life of communion; and live a life of total surrender.
Beloved, prepare now while you have the time. Those who are not prepared are not allowed to enter the wedding feast. It’s not too late to be marriage material. All you have to do is, say yes to the groom’s invitation. Trust me, it’s a decision you will never regret!
